The Quest for the Best Cheap Beer in a Can continues, episode 38: Budweiser Select. The QBCBC archive is here.
For all its crapitude, Budweiser isn’t the absolute horrendous monster we elitist microbrew bastards like to espouse it as. No, that honour actually belongs to its retarded little crackbaby cousin Bud Light. I hope this newer addition to the Bud family is not as ill-fated as the latter.
% Alcohol: 4.3
Price: $14.39/18 12 oz. cans = $0.80/12 oz. can
Color: Amber, noticeably more tinted than Budweiser or Bud Light.
Aroma: Sweet, hint of hops, but caramel-y.
First Sip: Its a strange taste. Its like they tried to make an actual beer this time, but couldn’t quite do it. Tastes nothing like Bud Light, so we can thankfully scratch that off the list. But has a more noticeable bite to it than Budweiser – both in flavor and carbonation.
Aftertaste: A slightly dry, crisp bitterness on the back of the tongue.
Overall: You know, it really isn’t have been. After several sips chugs in, I started developing an appreciation for it. It a proper american cheap beer, up there (not higher than) Schaeffer or Schlitz I would say. With a little more effort it could actually be something pretty decent. If it were on sale I might buy it again.
