The Quest for the Best Cheap Beer in a Can continues, episode 33: Amstel Light. The QBCBC archive is here.
Amsterdam. So many fond memories that I cannot say in the public realm without fear of being arrested. It was 1996 and I was 17, backpacking throughout Europe over the summer. Naturally, I spent a lot of time in Amsterdam, but have few memories of it. Although I do know for a fact that I don’t think I ever had an Amstel beer.
% Alcohol: 3.5
Price: $16.99/12 12 oz. cans = $1.42/12 oz. can
Color: A darker more orangish color, like an amber lager.
Aroma: Slightly floral, nothing too distinct too.
First Sip: A bit bittnerness, bordering on almost being skunked but not quite there, so its still pleasing to drink.
Aftertaste: Only a slight aftertaste, nothing lingering.
Overall: Definitely a meh beer. Its not offensive or even bad, but the low alcohol content and high import prices make it sort of pointless to buy. Definitely equal beers in the state for much cheaper some with more flavor too. It won’t be making a comeback in my fridge anytime soon.
