QBCBC 27: Hurricane High Gravity

The Quest for the Best Cheap Beer in a Can continues, episode 27: Hurricane High Gravity. The QBCBC archive is here.

When I saw this at the gas station, it looked like a beast that needed taming. A whopping 8.1% alcohol and with a name like Hurricane, it must be meant to destroy you!

% Alcohol: 8.1

Price: $1.69/24 oz. can = $0.85/12 oz. can

Punch: 8.1%/$0.85=9.53

Color: Amber, very proper lager color.

Aroma: Hoppy, smells like a pale ale.

First Sip: Bitter, in that it-has-a-shitload-of-alcohol kinda way. It has a very slightly watered down hint to it though. Doesn’t make it bad, just less sort of… ‘authentic’.

Aftertaste: The aftertaste does not linger.

Overall: Shit ain’t half bad. But I think the Hurricane’s competitor in this case, the Steel Reserve 211, was a tastier beer for the essentially the same price, and with the same amount of alcohol. Given the choice, I would choose Steel reserve, but would certainly not turn this down which is doing a mighty fine job of fucking me up in the course of writing this review.

Score: 7/10
